Louver Project

Period: Spring 2013
Instructor: Anton Martinez, Elias S Matar
Location: Manhattan, NY
Building Use: Light Manufacturing Factory
Team Work (5)

CONCEPT

By analyzing the sun-movement of 4 seasons, the team was trying to provide the best environment using louver system. The entire mass was  design by the amount of sun in which the building is provided
the maximum sunlight during cold weather, and reduce direct sun so that has better lighting atmosphere in summer.

CONCEPT MODEL STUDY

One of studio’s aim was to explore new types of geometry.Curvy surface and pipe geometry were introduced. Curvy wall with large scale is for the publc space which defines the entire building’s design language. Pipe geometry is used as structural member or more private related spaces such as private swimming pool for family members or friends.

WATER  SOUND  CAVE

The journey starts at the sound of water. In a linear sequence, these water spaces are connected each other with the structure in which there are introduction, development, turn and finally conclusion. First, people visually encounter large open space on the rooftop in which variety of activities happen. Then they enter into the building and people can experience shallow water and a quiet atmosphere. Lastly, one walks through the slope to the rooftop where one is introduce to flowing water and sounds.
